Smita Sabharwal (IAS) Early Life, Wiki, Biography
Smita Sabharwal is an Indian IAS Officer. She was born (on June 19, 1977) in West Bengal, India. She is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 2001 batch (Cadre). Smita is the first IAS officer who got appointed to the CMO (Chief Minister’s Office).
Her father name is Colonel Pranab Das, and mother name is Purabi Das. She completed her graduation (degree) from St Francis College for Women, Hyderabad.
She opted for Telangana state, post bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Currently, she is serving as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Career
A large portion of her studies was done in different areas. Her father Colonel Pranab Das was a retired Army officer, and her mom was an instructor and later functioned as foremost in Hyderabad.
Because of her father’s profession, he had to change the location, and hence, Smita has done schooling from various schools throughout India.
She completed her ninth and tenth standard at St. Ann’s High School. She completed her graduation in Commerce from St Francis College for Women.
She made an attempt for the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2000. She is one of the young aspirants, at 22, to have cleared the Union Public Service Commission exam securing All India (AIR) fourth rank at a very first attempt.
Subsequent to finishing the training in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie.
Her first appointment was as Sub Collector. From that point, she worked as Project Director in the Rural Development area, DRDA, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh.
Later she took charge as Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Visakhapatnam, and furthermore as District Joint Collector of Kurnool and Hyderabad.
In April 2011 she took the responsibility as District Collector, Karimnagar region where she put all her efforts in the Health and Education division. The wellbeing activity to enhance institutional conveyances in general society part famously known as “Ammalalana” was begun and effectively executed in the area.
Ever since joining IAS, she has become a highly popular officer because of her sheer determination to serve the people. Residents of Karimnagar, Adilabad, Medak, and among other districts, still remember her innovative ways to change the work performance of district administration.
Smita Sabharwal is the one for pioneering many administrative innovations. For example, while being the District Collector of Medak, she launched the program ‘Voter Padunga’. The aim of this program was to create awareness among voters and to boost the voting percentage. It has ended to be a successful program, and even Election Commission of India appreciated the initiative and asked other districts having less vote percentage throughout India to follow it. She is also termed as ‘People’s officer’ in the media for a series of steps she has taken in her short term to improve the delivery of government schemes to needy.
Smita Sabharwal Marriage, Husband, Children
In 2004, Smita married a Punjabi IPS officer, Akun Sabharwal. Presently, Akun is working as an IPS officer of Telangana cadre. Both belong to the same batch and cadre of their respective services.
The couple is known for taking the bull by the horns. Akun is also a highly efficient and dynamic police officer. Recently, he was in the news for tireless work to free Hyderabad from the clutches of the International drug racket. He was being threatened by International drug mafia. Most of the highly powerful and influential people of both Telugu states are unhappy with him because of his way of handling the drug case issue. In fact, many film celebrities (including actors, actresses, and directors of Tollywood) have been called by the SIT, headed by him, and are interrogated for hours.
They have a son Nanak Sabharwal, and a daughter Bhuvis Sabharwal, who is going to school and the couple is living in Hyderabad.
